Demand for Gasoline Slows

Today’s national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $2.84, no change from last week. One year ago, the price was $2.36. The New York State average is $2.99, down a penny since last week. A year ago, the NYS average was $2.48. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:
- Batavia - $2.95 (down one cent since last week)
- Buffalo - $2.99 (no change since last week)
- Ithaca - $2.93 (down one cent since last week)
- Rochester - $2.92 (down one cent since last week)
- Rome - $2.94 (down two cents since last week)
- Syracuse - $2.89 (down two cents since last week)
- Watertown - $3.02 (down one cent since last week)
Gas prices are flat as demand for gasoline continues to slow down. That slower demand along with growing domestic stocks of gasoline, have contributed to pump prices dipping slightly. Gas demand is expected to spike for Labor Day travel, leading to a likely, but brief, price jump as drivers take to the nation’s roads one last time before fall arrives.
