Gas Prices Drop Across the Region Again
Gas Prices Drop Across the Region Again

Today’s national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $2.90, which is down two cents from last week. One year ago, the price was $2.30. The New York State average is $3.05, which is down two cents from last week. A year ago, the NYS average was $2.47. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:
- Batavia - $2.99 (no change from last week)
- Buffalo - $3.01 (down 1 cent since last week)
- Ithaca - $2.95 (down 2 cents since last week)
- Rochester - $2.99 (down 2 cents since last week)
- Rome - $3.03 (down 3 cents since last week)
- Syracuse - $2.95 (down 5 cents since last week)
- Watertown - $3.08 (down 2 cents since last week)
Many states, including New York, are continuing to see their averages for regular unleaded gasoline drop slightly or stabilize due to supply and demand for gasoline being in balance after increased volatility over the past few months. However, the trend could reverse after the Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) report for the week ending on June 8 estimates that gasoline demand hit an all-time high. Registering at 9.88 million b/d (barrels per day), consumer gasoline demand is the highest weekly estimate on record since EIA began tracking it. The EIA’s latest reading is more than 900,000 b/d from the previous week’s estimate, signaling that motorists are embracing the summer driving season. If demand continues to trend higher, drivers may see prices spike at the pump.
