Island of Hawaii
  • For quaint boutiques, lively restaurants and lots of outdoor recreation, visit Hawi on the northernmost tip
  • In Hilo you'll find multiethnic comfort food, Hawaii's largest farmer's market, waterfalls and the rainforest
Oahu
  • Haleiwa on the North Shore is where you'll find surf culture, art galleries and restaurants all in plantation-era buildings
  • For an eclectic and walkable neighborhood, visit Kaimuki for its bakeries, healthy cafes, and trendy brewpubs and eateries
Kauai
  • Visit Koloa to see restored vintage storefronts and get a feel for the sugar plantation past. While you're there, hike to Koloa Heritage Trail for the area's cultural sites
  • Hanapepe is "Kauai's Biggest Little Town" and is popular for its local restaurants and artisan galleries
Maui
  • On the west slope of Haleakala, Kula is a beautiful farming district where you can tour a dairy, distillery, winery and lavender farm
  • Head over to Wailuku to live and eat like a local with its small-town eateries, bakeries, bistros and coffee shops
