Today’s national average price for regular unleaded gasoline is $2.55 per gallon, down two cents since last week. One year ago, the price was $2.22. The New York State average is $2.74, down four cents since last week. A year ago, the NYS average was $2.33.

AAA Western and Central New York (AAA Western and Central New York) reports the following averages:

  • Buffalo - $2.72 (down 2 cents in past week)
  • Rochester - $2.69 (down 4 cents in past week)
  • Rome - $2.70 (down 3 cents in past week)
  • Syracuse - $2.60 (down 7 cents in past week)

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) notes that after Hurricanes Harvey and Irma devastated refinery options and gas delivery systems in Texas and Florida, refinery operations, supplies, imports and exports are slowly returning to normal. As the recovery process continues, drivers are likely to see higher than usual prices continue to drop in the weeks ahead.

At the same time, the price of oil is on the rise as OPEC works to reduce global production and decrease high inventories, which is helping to bolster crude prices above the $50 per barrel mark. If it continues, the price of oil is likely to continue rising.
