Today’s national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $2.62, down eight cents from last week. One year ago, the price was $2.54. The New York State average is $2.87 – down four cents from last week. A year ago, the NYS average was $2.69. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:

  • Batavia - $2.90 (down 2 cents since last week)
  • Buffalo - $2.95 (down 2 cents since last week)
  • Ithaca - $2.74 (down 6 cents since last week)
  • Rochester - $2.84 (down 4 cents since last week)
  • Rome - $2.84 (down 4 cents since last week)
  • Syracuse - $2.74 (down 6 cents since last week)
  • Watertown - $2.94 (down 2 cents since last week)

Low demand and the end of refinery maintenance season have been pushing pump prices down. The national average and regional prices continue to drop. Falling oil prices have also contributed to the downward pressure on gas prices.

However, AAA projects 54.3 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more away from home this Thanksgiving, a 4.8 percent increase over last year. The vast majority of travelers – 48.5 million – will travel by car for the holiday, nearly 5 percent more than last year. That increased demand could temporarily drive up gas prices later this week and into next week.

Motorists can always find current gas prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad, and Android. The app can also be used to map a route, find discounts, book a hotel, and access AAA roadside assistance. Locate gas prices across the country at http://gasprices.aaa.com.

AAA WCNY wants to remind members that they can receive discounts at NOCO gas stations, as well as Fastrac locations. Learn more here. You can find the lowest prices in your area at http://aaa.opisnet.com/index.aspx.
