Following a busy Memorial Day weekend, most states across the country are seeing pump prices fall slightly or stabilize. Declining prices are likely to have been pushed by lower than expected demand, which fell by 713,000 b/d (barrels per day) from the previous week, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA). In its report for the week ending on June 1, Demand hit 8.98 million b/d and is 341,000 b/d below the same week last year. If demand continues to trend lower than expected, drivers may see continued relief at the pump in the weeks to come.
OPEC and its partners could also decide to increase crude output, they will likely announce the decision on June 22 at the next OPEC meeting in Vienna, Austria.
