Every year, Project: Time Off helps millions of Americans put aside time to plan their vacation days. The last Tuesday in January (January 29^th, 2019), is National Plan for Vacation Day! Project: Time Off is powered by the U.S. Travel Association and is aimed at encouraging Americans to plan their vacation days ahead of time to make the most of their time off.

Vacation is essential for multiple reasons: bonding with family and friends, relaxation and stress reduction and – you might not have guessed this one – being more productive at work. That’s right! Time away from work will help you come back more focused than ever.

So where to even begin?

Dos & Don’ts from Project: Time Off

• DO plan for your bucket list – not just your to-do list
• DO block your calendar, even if you aren’t sure of your plans just yet. Keeping the calendar clear creates the opportunity to take a vacation.
• DO talk to your manager about your vacation plans as far in advance as possible.
• DON’T make your bucket list unattainable. Think about what’s reasonable for you in the next few years.
• DON’T get swallowed up by the details. You don’t have to have your itinerary and reservations completely set to make a request. It’s much easier to decide against taking time off that you have requested than it is to make a request too late.
• DON’T be afraid of being proactive and ensuring you can use the vacation days you earn.
