Traveling abroad is exciting and fun because you get to see new things and learning about different cultures. If concern about not speaking the language is stopping you from traveling, here are 8 common phases in Spanish, French, Italian and German that might help get you moving on your vacation.

  1. Hello/Goodbye
    Spanish: Hello - Hola (OH-lah)/ Goodbye - Adios (ah-dee-OHS)
    French: Hello - bonjour (bohn-ZHOOR)/ Goodbye - Au revoir (oh reh-VWAR)
    Italian: Hello - Buongiorno (bwon-JOR-no)/ Goodbye - Arrivederci (a-ree-ve-DER-chee)
    German: Hello - Hallo (AH-low)/ Goodbye - Auf Wiedersehen (all-VEET-a-zen)

  2. Thank you/Please
    Spanish: Thank you – gracias (GRAH-see-ahs)/Please- Por favor (POUR-fav-VOUR)
